Crumbly Bakery & Cafe

In the heart of Manhattan, on the Upper East Side, lies a bakery serving up mouth wateringly delicious treats made on the premises! The bakery's name draws inspiration from the family’s favorite cake, a crumb cake! Every morning at 4am the treats are being made. In every bite you take, you can taste the hard work put into it. The store then opens its doors at 7 AM and doesn’t shut them until twelve hours later.  Working 17 hours a day is a sign that they are hard workers and truly care about what they do.

The bakery emerged in the midst of the COVID pandemic as many were working from home, giving them more freedom for their private lives and their own self reflection. Mia had lived in California and worked in sales/ marketing for 8 years. Her mother loved to bake and her dream was to open a bakery. So the family took the risk and moved back to New York City to start their own bakery.

When the bakery was opening, COVID was still prominent, causing many people to be scared to go out. This made it very difficult for the bakery to attract attention and customers, on top of the economic struggles afflicting the world.

Despite numerous challenges, the family persevered, making Crumbly what it is today. The bakery offers many unique flavors including a customer favorite pistachio lime cake which is extremely moist and flavorful. Every time I go into the bakery, I am at a loss for what to order because everything looks so delicious. The pistachio lime cake is one of my favorites because it is such a unique combination of flavors that works so well together.

One customer that I spoke to stated,  “My personal favorite are the fresh baked pistachio muffins.” After trying the muffin for myself, I found that it is truly amazing, as the flavor is 100% real pistachio and not just from some artificial extract.

Lastly, I spoke to another customer, who declared that, “It's so hard to choose, but if I have to, my personal favorite thing from Crumbly is their cake pops.” Their cake pops are also scrumptious; the fillings range from chocolate to vanilla, red velvet, and more! So, if you're ever in the neighborhood and want to taste some delicious sweet or savory treats, stop by Crumbly Bakery (located at 55 and 1st Avenue!)
